Selection and Characteristics of the Dragonfly Landing Site near Selk Crater, Titan

چکیده

Abstract The factors contributing to the initial selection of a dune site near Selk impact structure on Titan as first landing for Dragonfly mission are described. These include arrival geometry and aerodynamic/aerothermodynamic considerations, illumination, Earth visibility, well likely presence exposed deposits water-rich material, potentially including materials where molten ice has interacted with organics. Cassini observations summarized interpreted: near-infrared reflectance microwave emission data indicate in around crater. Radar topography shows rim have slopes multi-km scales reaching only ?2° degrees, an order magnitude shallower than early photoclinometric estimates.

Landing site selection for Luna-Glob mission in crater Boguslawsky

Boguslawsky crater (72.9°S, 43.3°E, 100 km in diameter) is a primary target for the Luna-Glob mission. The crater has a morphologically smooth (at the resolution of WAC images), flat, and horizontal floor, which is about 55–60 km in diameter. Two ellipses were selected as specific candidate landing areas on the floor: the western ellipse is centered at 72.9°S, 41.3°E and the eastern ellipse is ...

Autonomous Real-Time Site Selection for Venus and Titan Landing using Evolutionary Fuzzy Cognitive Maps

Future science-driven landing missions, conceived to collect in-situ data on regions of planetary bodies that have the highest potential to yield important scientific discoveries, will require a higher degree of autonomy. The latter includes the ability of the spacecraft to autonomously select the landing site using real-time data acquired during the descent phase. This paper presents the devel...

Gale crater: the Mars Science Laboratory/ Curiosity Rover Landing Site

Gale crater formed from an impact on Mars *3.6 billion years ago. It hosts a central mound nearly 100 km wide and *5 km high, consisting of layered rocks with a variety of textures and spectral properties. The oldest exposed layers contain variably hydrated sulphates and smectite clay minerals, implying an aqueous origin, whereas the younger layers higher on themound are covered by amantle of d...

Soils of Eagle crater and Meridiani Planum at the Opportunity Rover landing site.

The soils at the Opportunity site are fine-grained basaltic sands mixed with dust and sulfate-rich outcrop debris. Hematite is concentrated in spherules eroded from the strata. Ongoing saltation exhumes the spherules and their fragments, concentrating them at the surface. Spherules emerge from soils coated, perhaps from subsurface cementation, by salts. Two types of vesicular clasts may represe...
